Our Partner NY State Schools
PARTNER 1: Bronx High School for the Visual Arts (BHSVA) is located in the Northeast Bronx, NY. The school serves 426 students, 82% of whom are eligible for free or reduced lunch and 5% of whom have limited English proficiency. Fifty-six percent of the students are Hispanic or Latino and 34% are Black or African American. A ninth grade group of teachers participating in an Inquiry group to develop interdisciplinary based curriculum. BHSVA has been involved in this project since 2010.
PARTNER 2: Millennium High School (MHS), founded in 2002, is located in lower Manhattan, NYC. The school servess 637 students, 70% of whom are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Twenty-eight percent of the students are Asian, 25% are Hispanic or Latino, and 9% are Black or African American. Millennium teachers are interested in challenging students, especially through projects that develop literacy skills through inquiry. MHS has been involved since 2009, the beginning of this project.
PARTNER 3: Peekskill High School & Middle School are located in the city of Peekskill in Westchester County, NY. The High School (PHS) serves 869 students, 55% of whom are eligible for free and reduced lunch and 6% of whom have limited English proficiency. Forty-five percent of the students are Black or African American and 37% are Hispanic or Latino. The Middle School (PMS) serves 580 students, 75% of whom are eligible for free and reduced lunch and 8% of whom have limited English proficiency. Forty-four percent are Black or African American and 44% are Hispanic/Latino. Peekskill teachers have had a particular interest in using technology through inquiry. Peekskill High School has been involved since 2009, the beginning of this project. Peekskill Middle School has been in been involved since 2012.
PARTNER 4: Sleepy Hollow School (SHHS) is located in Tarrytown in Westchester County, NY and includes students from two socioeconomically and ethnically diverse neighboring towns with significant immigrant populations. SHHS serves 844 students, 37% of whom are eligible for free and reduced lunch and 16% of whom have limited English proficiency. Fifty-seven percent of the students are Hispanic or Latino. SHHS is trying to promote inquiry through all departments as a daily practice to improve learning for all students. SHHS has been involved since 2009, the beginning of this project.
